Romanian energy minister proposes „Smart Deal“

Romanian Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja has announced plans to present a report to the government detailing the negative impacts of the European Union's Green Deal on Romania's energy sector. Burduja, inspired by US President Donald Trump, proposes a shift from the Green Deal to a "Smart Deal," criticizing the EU's environmental policies for being overly bureaucratic and disconnected from economic realities. He argues that Romania's potential as a regional energy leader is hindered by these policies and advocates for a more pragmatic approach, including the continued use of coal-fired power plants until viable alternatives are available, and the use of gas-fired plants as a transitional solution, with nuclear power as the long-term goal.
